Monkey Town Hong Kong Style
24 January 2018 It went down in monkey town. I had a 12 hour layover in Hong Kong and was dead set on seeing the supposed monkeys that lived on one of the islands. There are a wide array of activities facing the traveler with a layover in Hong Kong: movies, shopping, walking, anything but monkeys. I almost succumbed to the allure of an airport lounge and a Netflix binge. I was fortunate to have another adventurous traveler spur me to finding monkeys. The trek to the monkeys started with the Airport Express MTR into town. Then I hopped on the MTR to get as close to the county park as possible. Hong Kong is really busy. Stepping out of hot subway air just steps you out into a big crowd. I trusted the walking directions on Google Maps to begin my 1 hour walk to the monkeys. I hit a wall, literally, a giant wall.
