American Tobacco Trail - Durham, NC
2016 November 26 I may not have had the opportunity to #optoutside for Black Friday, but you give me even part of a day with daylight in a new city and I'll find a bicycle to rent and take off. Lucky for me, Durham is home to a fine Rail to Trail. If you don't know about this program, it's a series of trails made up of old railroad beds. This can be chert, paved, gravel, dirt, etc. Fortunately, unlike the Katy Trail adventure I just completed, this trail was probably 80% paved. This brings me joy on a deep level. The American Tobacco Trail extends 22 miles from downtown Durham, NC, south to the wilderness. Along the way you can see old tobacco cutting and drying houses and will likely share it with oodles of other users including bicyclists, walkers, runners and even horses on some sections.
